Folio 94: Introductory Remarks. Of the crew of 29, only 5 survived: Lieutenant-Commander Claus Lafrenz, Reserve Sub-Lieutenant Diedrich Braue, Leading Seaman Willy Ostergaard, Leading Seaman Erich Fugner and Telegraphist Theodor Bremer.
Folio 95: On last cruise, left Zeebrugge on 21 Oct. 1917 and passed through Dover Barrage on surface. Laid mines off Havre and expended all five torpedoes. Sunk by torpedo from C.15 on 3 Nov.
Folio 95: Submarine Flanders Flotilla operates north to Flamborough Head, Channel and to North coast of Spain. Irish Sea considered too dangerous. Cruises usually of 14 to 16 days but depend on how quickly torpedoes are expended.
Folio 96: No problems navigating in the North Sea and Channel. Crossing Dover Barrage on surface at night.
Folio 96: Minelaying sinks ships and keeps minesweepers employed so they do not operate against submarines. Each submarine commander becomes a specialist for a definite area and he alone lays mines there.
Folio 97: Lafrenz had only one previous cruise in UC.65, also laying mines off Havre.
