Folios 54-66: CB number 01358 O.X.O, Copy number 339, German Battleship Kaiser, October 1917.

Folio 55: Cover sheet, German Battleship Kaiser.

Folio 56: Table of Contents.

Folio 57: Plate 1. Course followed by Squadron on the last occasion the Fleet went to Kiel.

Folio 57: Introductory Remarks. Examination and background of an Able Seaman, deserter from the German Battleship Kaiser. Also of an Ordinary Seaman deserter who had served in battleship Wettin and gunboat Drache.

Folio 57: Operations and Movements of Kaiser. Last time Kaiser was in the North Sea was with the whole fleet to cover the return of the Mowe.

Folios 57-58: Jutland Action. Kaiser sank a vessel of the Defence Class. Kaiser was hit a number of times but none of the shells penetrated.

Folio 58: Squadron Formation. Admiral Scheer C-in-C High Sea Fleet flagship is Baden which is not embodied in any formation. Each of three battle squadrons consisting of six vessels. First Squadron: Ostfriesland, Helgoland, Thuringen, Oldenburg, Westphalen and Posen. Second Squadron: Rheinland, Nassau, Kaiser, Kaiserin, Konig Albert and Prinzregent Luitpold. Third Squadron: Konig, Kronprinz, Grosser Kurfurst, Markgraf, Bayern and Friedrich der Grosse.

Folios 58-60: General Details of Kaiser, 5.9-inch battery, Armament, Rangefinders, Searchlights, Signalling, Night Speed Indicators, Fuel, Complement, Wireless telegraphy, Officers. Plate 2: Bearing Indicator and 5.9-inch gun (folio 58).

Folios 60-61: Wilhelmshaven and the Jade River. Ships distributed on outpost duty, at anchor in the Inner Roadstead and in Wilhelmshaven Harbour. Ships on Output duty include one battle squadron, two battle cruisers, several light cruisers and two or three half-flotillas of Torpedo Boats or Destroyers. Mining depot ship Seeadler blew up south of the harbour on 20 April 1917 (folio 61). The Jade River. Location and description of Voslapp, Hooksiel and Schillig Barrages (folio 61). Minefields and Patrols in the Heligoland Bight. Plate 4: shows the approximate position of the minefields in the Heligoland Bight. Two lines of patrols, Sylt to East Frisian Islands and Sylt to Norderney are also shown. Details of patrols are included (folio 61). Approaches to Wilhelmshaven. Details of course and buoys. Submarines must not submerge between Heligoland and Wilhelmshaven (folio 61). Plate 6: Position of ships in Wilhelmshaven (folio 61). Plate 3: The Jade River (folio 61).

Folio 62: Ships are fitted with a Tripod Mast forward and a Control Position aloft. Battleships Baden, Bayern and Kronprinz and Battle Cruisers Hindenburg and Derfflinger. All Battleships and Battle Cruisers are to be fitted.

Folio 62: Ships of the High Sea Fleet proceed to Kiel every three months for manoeuvres and gunnery practice.

Folio 62: Submarine Deutschland in the Imperial Yard, Kiel in May 1917, armed with two 5.9-inch guns and six torpedo tubes. Two or three larger submarine cruisers sighted in Germania Yard, Kiel. Submarine depot ship attached to 1ST Submarine Flotilla, at Bunnsbuttel in Kiel Canal.

Folio 62: Battleship S.M.S. Wettin moored in Kiel employed as a training ship for recruits.

Folio 62: The gunboat SMS Drache at Wilhelmshaven is leader of North Sea Patrol Flotilla. To be relieved by light cruiser Berlin and Drache transferred to the Baltic.

Folio 63: New Light Cruisers, Konigsberg Class, armed with six 5.9-inch guns, two deck and two submerged torpedo tubes. Light cruiser Regensburg being rearmed with 5.9-inch guns.

Folio 63: M. Boats. The highest numbered seen was M.73 or M.74.

Folio 63: Raiders. Russian ammunition ship Suchan captured by U.48 was being fitted out as a raider. Two merchant vessels at Kiel being fitted with 5.9-inch guns.

Folio 63: Painting of Funnels. When Kaiser went to sea, the funnels painted red or yellow on passing Minsener Sand and repainted grey before arriving back at entrance to the Jade.

Folio 63: New Construction. A Battle Cruiser building at Wilhelmshaven Dockyard. Two new mine laying Light Cruisers, Skorpion and Natter, seen at Kiel. Magdeburg completed and on trials. Coln expected to commission.

Folio 63: General Conditions. General discontent in battleships due to monotonous routine, bad conditions and scantiness of food. Many petty officers and men volunteering for the more popular submarine service. Plate 4. Heligoland Bight - Minefields and Patrols (folio 64). Plate 5. Approaches to Wilhelmshaven (folio 65). Plate 6. Wilhelmshaven (folio 66).
