Description

Captured ship: Arms of Copenhagen (master Jan Pietersen).

History: a Danish merchant ship (80 tons), bound from Dram to Nantes, laden with deal boards and planks; taken before 10 October 1691 by the privateer Protestant Cause (Daniel Clarke commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: interrogatories, commission, three examinations [giving details of several previous voyages as well];
  • [CP 3]: claim of Jan Matthias Leers, Danish Consul at Nantes and William Edringer of Copenhagen to the ship and cargo;
  • [CP 4-CP 7]: two allegations, with annexed interogatories;
  • [CP 8]: commission of appraisement, inventory;
  • [CP 9-CP 13]: five sets of attestations, affidavits, claims and translations, issued by the ruling authorities of Nantes, Dram and Copenhagen;
  • [CP 14]: abstract and translation from Danish, Dutch, High Dutch, Latin and Low Dutch, of 54 ships papers [not here, but restoration seems unlikely].
