Folios 109-110. Letter from Rob [Robert] Hodgson to [?William Burke]: ' When I first presented my Memorial I conceived the facts advanced therein were so clear, that I should have little trouble in being repaid - in order that they might be so, I suppressed some articles, because my vouchers were not of the strongest kind. I mentioned Lieutenant Speer having been paid similar expenses, because, as that transaction was then fresh, I thought it might chance to expedite mine; but was not solicitous for the propriety of mine to depend thereon. Two of my three charges are altogether the same as Lieutenant Speer's viz [namely] the allowance made to the troops by Jamaica, and the transport hire, or passage, only, in the latter, I paid for the party of soldiers under my command, as well as for myself. I could have made my Memorial still more similar to Lieutenant Speer's, if I had added a charge of one guinea per day for going to Port Omoa [Honduras], whither I was sent, although I lost my baggage, was sick near five months, buried all the people that went with me etcetera - in short I could have done so with full as much propriety - but without my meddling any farther with Mr Speer's Memorial, I beg leave to say, I entirely wave [sic] asking any recompense excepting my so doing will strengthen what I have already requested. The expense of the house must depend upon the propriety of it, I can only say the three articles of my Memorial are as well vouched as I have said; and I cannot help thinking, Sir, but an examination of their merits will be to my advantage; however the whole is submitted and I am with great respect'. Dated at King Street, Argyle Buildings.
