Folios 91-95. Folios 91-92. Letter from William Burke at Park Place to Samuel Garbett relating to iron manufacture and the 'elopement' of Garbett's iron workers from Scotland to Sweden. As to the latter he advises Garbett that as this falls within the remit of the Northern Department he should address future correspondence to Mr [Richard] Stonehewer [Under-Secretary to the Duke of Grafton]. He adds that if Garbett thinks 'General Conway can advance or promote the trading or manufacturing interest' he may freely call on the General. The copy of the report of the Customs' Commissioners to the Treasury referred to as being enclosed is not filed here. Copy. Folios 93-95. Letter from Samuel Garbett to William Burke replying to Burke's letter enclosing 'a sketch of what I have in haste drawn up by way of note upon the Commissioner's report'. He asks for Burke's advice as to how he should continue his application to obtain a law that will prevent his 'being under the necessity of promoting foreign manufactures or of losing a valuable branch of business'.
