Folios 215-216. Letter, dated at Andover [Hampshire], from J [John] Pollen and Edwd [Edward] Poore to the Duke of Grafton. 'We are honoured with his Majesty's further commands in relation to John Collins signified by your Grace's letter, and in obedience to them must beg leave to say That this is a case of a very interesting nature to all families where servants are kept, and we apprehensive that crimes of this sort are too frequently committed, it seems to call for an exemplary punishment. And therefore we are humbly of the opinion, that John Collins is not a proper object of his Majesty's mercy. We hope that our not expressing ourselves in so clear a manner before will be imputed to our unwillingness to urge the fate of an unhappy man, or to set bounds to the Royal Mercy'.
