Folios 81-83. Folios 81-82. James Forster, Chief Justice of Ely, to the King. Judge's certificate on the case of Thomas Dobson capitally convicted at Ely, Cambridgeshire of 'wilfully and feloniously killing a sheep' belonging to John Mathews and stealing the carcase. He recommends mercy on condition of transportation either for life or 14 years as the King shall see fit. Folio 83. Letter from James Forster to the Earl of Sandwich enclosing the said report and advising transportation for life as Dobson 'may become an honest and an useful subject abroad but fear he will make an untimely exit, if ever he returns among his old acquaintance'. Endorsed 'This man to be transported for life'.
