Description

Captured ship: Angel Gabriel of Westerwick, otherwise Engeln Gabriel of Västervik (master Cornelius Clausen or Claesen or Cornelisen).

History: a Swedish merchant ship (100 tons), bound from Bayonne to Stockholm, laden with wine, skins; taken in [early May] 1692 by HMS Crown (Thomas Warren commanding), and brought into Plymouth

  • [CP 1]: claim of Heir Van Santen (otherwise Hero or Here Van Santen) of Stockholm for the cargo;
  • [CP 2]: allegation;
  • [CP 3-CP 5]: commissions of appraisement, report, appraisement;
  • [CP 6- CP 7]: commission to examine witnesses in Stockholm (on behalf of Van Santen), returned with examinations: the commission has had the portraits of William and Mary cut out;
  • [CP 8]: commission (with engraved portraits of William and Mary by William Elder) to examine witnesses in Amsterdam (on behalf of Van Santen of Stockholm), returned with examinations.
