The Welsh Office Agriculture Department (WOAD) was created in 1968. Responsibility for agriculture gradually transferred from the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) to the Welsh Office between 1968 and 1978. WOAD primarily followed MAFF's lead and policies except on issues that had specific relevance to Wales. WOAD continued to function until the creation of the National Assembly for Wales in 1999, which absorbed the responsibility over agriculture in Wales.
