The National Lottery Charities Board was a non-departmental public body, with an arms-length relationship to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. It was responsible for distributing funds raised by the National Lottery for 'good causes', funding projects working across health, education, the environment and charitable sectors. It was also known under its operational name, the Community Fund. The National Lottery Charities Board was later merged into the Big Lottery Fund in 2004, alongside the New Opportunities fund, which also had Department for Culture, Media and Sport involvement. Following the merger, the records of the National Lottery Charities Board were transferred to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
