The Private Finance Unit was set up in 1994. Following the amalgamation of the Department of the Environment and Department of Transport to form the Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) in 1997, the Private Finance Unit was absorbed into the Local Government Capital Finance Division in 1998.
