This series contains more than one link to the ‘snapshots’ of this website. For some websites, the URL may change periodically. Despite this change to the URL these websites are part of the same record series as they represent the department or organisation’s presence on the web at the time. Occasionally, more than one domain URL to the same website may run in parallel creating an overlap.
Following the merger of the Public Record Office and the Historical Manuscripts Commission in 2003, the Advisory Council on Public Records (first appointed by the Lord Chancellor in 1959) became the Advisory Council on National Records and Archives. The Council advises the Lord Chancellor on public access to records and the care of archives and manuscripts, including the allocation of historical papers accepted against tax.
