A letter from Jab [James] Vernon to Mr [Richard] Hill, dated at Whitehall [Middlesex] commenting on how 'the nations at Brussels can find nothing to imitate but a parliament', and mentioning that Hill's placart [?proposals] to the States [estates General of Holland, Netherlands] have been shown to Sir Joseph Williams [envoy at talks for the Treaty of Rijswijk]. Also reports: King [William III's] mediation between the Duke of Ormond, the Earl of Albemarle and Lord Rivers [concerning their respective seniority] in command of the Guards; Lord Portland being still in Windsor [Berkshire]; and the death of customs accountant cashier, Richard] Hutchinson, with Mordeca [Mordecai] Abbot [Abbott] proposed to replace him.
