A letter from Ja [James] Vernon to Ambassador [Joseph] Williamson, dated at Whitehall [Middlesex] concerning difficulties arising for 'the treaty of nearer alliance', if conditions be insisted upon, mentioning the Treaty of Altena [of 1689], Lubeck, and Monsieur Lilierode. If this treaty does not proceed, 'the treaty which is more immediately under your care should be concluded'.
