Description

Folios 178-179. Newsletter addressed to Sir Joseph Williamson. The King has given orders for disbanding Colonel Harvey's and Colonel Windsor's regiments of horse, and the Earl of Denbigh's and Colonel Leigh's dragoons. Major General Lumley and Colonel Cholmondeley are commanded to go and see it done. Five regiments are ordered for Ireland, viz. Pisar's, Brewer's, Frederick Hamilton's, Tiffany's and another. His Majesty intends to go to his chapel at Whitehall for Thanksgiving. At night there will be a very fine firework in St James's Square. Captain Harlow [Thomas Harlowe] was to be tried at a court martial held on board one of his Majesty's ships at the buoy of the Nore; Sir George Rooke and the rest of the flag officers were directed to be present. There is news from Ireland regarding the following: an act for the aditionnal duty on tobacco and several other merchandises, an act to hinder the reversal of several outlawries, an act for taking away the benefit of the clergy in some cases, an act for making the collectors receipts for quitt rents and other legal discharges, a bill for the better security of His Majesty's royal person and government, and the poll bill.Captain Dilkes, with five men of war that arrived some time since at Kinsale from the West Indies, sailed thence and has since arrived at Spithead.
