Description

Folios 176(a)-177. Ja [James] Vernon reporting to Ambassador [Joseph] Williamson. The Duke [of Shrewsbury] went to Eyford [Gloucestershire], but there is no alteration made in his office, His Majesty allowing him the liberty to resolve whether he will hold this employment. The King went to Richmond [Park] to shoot [?wild turkeys]. The pain he had in his knee is over. He will not go to St Paul's on Thanksgiving. There has been a great deal of notice taken here of a stanza in Nostredamus [Michel de Nostredame, Nostradamus], but the reason His Majesty is not going is that the church is all open atop, the cupola not being made. Knight and Burton have both been bailed at the King's Bench. The Treasury made their report to his Majesty of the abuses and corrruptions they had found in the under officers of that revenue. Sir William Twisden and Lord Crew died recently. Dr Prat, one of the chaplains to the Princess [Anne[, has been made prebendary of Windsor in Dr Saumarez' place. The Duke of Ormonde has come over from Ireland; there is news about the bill of outlawries, the bill for additional duties, the poll bill (mention of a Mr Eyre and a Mr Harman) and the association bill. They are in great want of the gazettes that come out in Holland in French, which Mr Prior used to send, especially the Nouvelles Extraordinaires and the Leyden Gazettes.
