Folios 172-173. Ja [James] Vernon reporting to Ambassador [Joseph] Williamson. At the beginning of the week the King had a pain in his knee; it made him halt for some days, but he is pretty well again. They heard nothing of disbanding the regiments, but talk of reforming them; a very virulent pamphlet has been written against a standing army. The Duke of Shrewsbury intends to go out of town, and Lord [Edward Villiers, Earl of] Jersey was sworn of the privy council. An Irish 'popish' woman was ordered to be prosecuted yesterday, for having sworn treason against two men, who justified themselves to be loyal subjects, and made it appear that her malice against them was for getting her committed to Bridewell for pilfering. Vernon also encloses a letter [not enclosed in this volume] from the Duke [of Shrewsbury], to be sent to Baron [?Comte] de la Tour, who is probably still at The Hague.
