Folio 171. Mr [?Hugh] Champneys reporting to Lord Ambassador [Joseph] Williamson. He delivered his letter to the Lord Chamberlain. He has seen Sir Charles Bickerstaffe, who told him that Lord [Henry Hyde, Earl of] Clarendon is now in a worse condition than ever, being turned out of Swallowfield by an execution. Lord Cornbury [Edward Hyde, Earl of Clarendon] and his lady are starving, and have fallen out with Lord [Laurence Hyde, Earl of] Rochester. Sir Charles told him that Lord Cornbury could not move the court against his Excellency, for want of a fee to give a lawyer; and he believes, if Williamson would gratify Sir Charles in letting him have some of his annuity, that it would bring him entirely to his service.
