Folio 170. [James Vernon] asking Ambassador [Joseph] Williamson to employ all fitting endeavours to procure Captain [William] Cadogan's release. Major General [Thomas] Erle with some of his officers was taken by a Dunkirk privateer; and only one of the hostages given by Erle to answer their ransom has been sent back; the other, Captain Cadogan, is still detained at Dunkirk, upon pretence that the privateer that took them has not been suffered to return since she was brought in by the Maidstone.
