Folios 166-167. Ja [James] Vernon reporting to Ambassador [Joseph] Williamson. The Duke [of Shrewsbury]'s health will not permit him to remain in town this winter, and he cannot think of holding an employment he will not be able to execute. His Majesty is both unwilling to part with him, and unresolved who should supply his place. Letters from Ireland say that the bill for outlawries passed the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The Commons had examined several complaints of the inhabitants of Waterford and others, against the exactions and oppressions committed by Sir James Jeffreys, governor of Duncannon Fort; an address for removing him was voted. The Lords Justices, Lords of the Treasury, and the Attorney and Solicitor General attended the King on Saturday last, when the misbehaviour of [?} Knight and [?] Burton was laid open. His Majesty has directed they shall be 'severally' prosecuted. The King found himself a little out of order on Sunday in the evening, but was very well next morning. Mr [John] Stanley got married to Mrs [Anne] Greenville [Grenville or Granville].
