Description

Folios 144-145. Ja [James] Vernon reporting to Ambassador [Joseph] Williamson. They are waiting to hear of his Majesty's landing. The Duke of Shrewsbury has lain at Kensington since Wednesday night. Ireland received the bills, and it was thought the bill of outlawries would give general satisfaction there. He sent them six more, and the Council passed the bill for the more easy recovery of small debts. Lord [Thomas] Coningsby's bill for confirming the outlawries of Fagan and Plunkett was passed. In consequence of the information by a French protestant, that the Duke of Berwick visited his shop, the proclamation has been renewed for apprehending all those who were in the former proclamations and are not yet taken. The Council have considered the bill for the linen manufacture, but find it so much amiss in its first contenture, that they do not see how it is to be mended. The practices of Marriot [Reginald Marriott of Parson's Green] in converting Exchequer Bills into specie bills begin now to discover themselves, two in Lord Fitzharding's office, one Bradley, an under-clerk there, being accused of it.
