Folio 141. RY [Robert Yard] reporting to Sir Jo [Joseph] Williamson. There have of late been several reports that the Duke of Berwick [James FitzJames], Sir George Barclay, Colonel [John] Parker and others, who were attainted of high treason, have come over from France. Two days ago 'an information' was given to the Lords Justices by a Frenchman, who keeps a shop in Soho, that on Saturday last a gentleman came and he recollected it was the Duke of Berwick. A proclamation has been published. Lord Mayor Sir Humphrey Edwin has for two Sundays gone to Mead's meeting-house in London, attended by the sword-bearer with the city sword. This has given great offence, and the court of aldermen have passed a vote, that the city sword for the future should not be carried to any meeting or conventicle.
