Folios 131-132. Newsletter addressed to Sir Joseph Williamson [Nine Years' War]. His Majesty is expected with the first easterly wind and in the meantime the City makes preparation for his reception. The loan in London for His Majesty's service is almost completed. The Prince and Princess of Denmark [later Queen Anne] returned yesterday to St James's from Windsor.The homeward-bound Dutch East India ships still continue at Spithead. An express from Dublin say that there was a violent tempest at Athlone, accompanied by thunder and lightning; the town and castle have been burnt and blown down, the magazine having been fired by lightning. Col [Colonel] St John writes that he fears many [people] were lost in the ruins. His Majesty's ship Breda, Captain Dilkes commander, with the Bristol, Virgin's Grace and Lightning fireship, part of the West India squadron, arrived at Kinsale. Breda,Severn and Bristol have lost their main mast in a storm; the former has arrived also at Kinsale, with the Plymouth and Anglesey.
