Folios 87(b)-88. Ja [James] Vernon reporting to Ambassador [Joseph] Williamson. He sends a list of bills (not included in this volume) approved at Council. There was another bill read for preventing abuses in butter casks; Vernon also mentions the Protestants and the Articles of Limerick, and the bill of additional duties. Captn [Captain] [James] Waller writes from Kinsale that French privateers are infesting the coast. Captain [John] Lapthorne has lately brought into the Downs a French privateer newly come out of Dunkirk, whose master said he had leave to cruise for fourteen days, and talks of ten more vessels he left behind. Vernon asks Williamson if this is pursuant to the agreement made at Ryswick, that hostilities should cease within twelve days of the signing of the treaty.
