Folios 70-71. Ja [James] Vernon reporting to Ambassador [Joseph] Williamson. There is no news from Ireland; and as the wind has now come to the East, they cannot expect to hear anything. Vernon found confirmation of what the last letters mentioned, touching a vessel arrived there from Newfoundland, in the news they received from France, that [André, marquis de] Nesmond's design was to burn or starve Captain [John] Norris in St John's harbour [Canada]. He hopes he will be able to effect neither, for they think they have provisions that will last longer than any ships can lie on that coast.
