The Mental Health Review Tribunal hears applications and references for people detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 and the Mental Health Act 2007, and directs the discharge of patients where the statutory criteria for discharge is satisfied. In November 2008 it became the First-tier Tribunal (Mental Health).
