Original wills were accepted as valid by the Admiralty, in most cases on printed forms, with orders to issue checks thereon to the executors. The original wills when not held valid appear to have been returned to the executors and the bundles contain the Admiralty's orders to that effect.
These are original wills, deposited in the Navy Pay Office. They were made by ratings, Royal Marine other ranks, and some warrant officers.
Digital copies of Wills of Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel 1786-1882 can be searched and downloaded.
They are arranged in alphabetical order of the writers' names and by the date of making the will (not of death).
