Administrative / biographical background

The Employment Appeal Tribunal was created in 1975 as a successor to the National Industrial Relations Court. The main function of the Employment Appeal Tribunal is to hear appeals from decisions made by Employment Tribunals in England, Scotland and Wales. It also hears appeals from (and applications relating to) decisions made by the Certification Officer or by the Central Arbitration Committee.
