Description

Folios 91-92. A newsletter from Ja [James] Vernon to Lord Ambassador [Joseph] Williamson, dated at Whitehall [Middlesex] with comments on the negotiations for a treaty [of Rijswijk]. Reports on: the recovery of health by the Lord Chancellor [John Somers]; [Treasury teller William] Palmes efforts to cover funds he owes [after diverting public money for private use]; plans to send three more battalions [to Flanders]; Sir George Rooke's ships heading for Spithead [Hampshire]; the death of Sir Francis Pemberton; a perjury trial linked to the case of the Earl of Bath [versus the Earl of Montagu]; a bill in Ireland prohibiting intermarriage between Protestants and Roman Catholics; rumours that the Virginia fleets has arrived in Ireland; commissions for Sir Harry Hobard to go to the Customs House, and Mr Stepney to the Board of Trade and Plantations.
