English Heritage's Cathedrals and Churches Advisory Committee, formed in 1991, was responsible for providing expert advice to the Commission on its statutory functions as they relate to cathedrals and ecclesiastical buildings. Matters on which it advised included the preservation of cathedrals and ecclesiastical buildings (chiefly the listing of ecclesiastical buildings); conservation policy, preservation and standards relating to cathedrals and ecclesiastical buildings; the awarding of grants for the acquisition, repair, maintenance, recording or management of cathedrals or outstanding ecclesiastical buildings and applications or proposals to demolish or alter ecclesiastical buildings outside London (or in London, where these had implications for national policy). The committee was replaced by the Places of Worship Advisory Committee in 2000.
