Pages 212-213. A letter read from Sir Thomas Culpepper, Lieutenant of Dover Castle [Kent] concerning the escape of 15 Frenchmen from the town gaol; together with the examinations of one of the Frenchmen and other persons. Because this is a matter 'mainly prejudicial to his Majesty's service and to the justice of the realm', the Council orders that all this documentation, plus a copy of the letter to the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, be sent to the Attorney General who is also to examine Richard Holmwood 'now sent up', Maximilian Danson now prisoner in King's Bench, John Reston now prisoner in the Fleet, and anyone else he thinks fit, and give his opinion 'against how many and whom it shall be fit to proceed, and in what manner, so as may be most exemplary to deter others from so foul neglects and abuses'.
