Page 205. Letter to Edward Hyde, Clerk of the Peace in Hertfordshire. The inhabitants of Hempsted [Hemel Hempstead] have complained that because Francis Coombes, lessee of the tithes there from St Paul's Cathedral, London, has been assessed on tithes valued at £250, whereas they are worth £400, others are having to make up the difference. The £250 has been accepted at Quarter Sessions, but the Cathedral objects that the low valuation is prejudicial to their interests. The Council rules that the £250 be allowed to stand on this occasion but not be regarded as a precedent.
