Pages 67-68. Sir Robert Bennet, Sir Edmund Sawyer, Mr John Wilcockes and Richard Powney esq were previously commissioned to review a dispute between Henry Crosse of Reading [Berkshire], bargeman, and 'one Terrey, a fisherman resident at Boveney' [Buckinghamshire] concerning a dangerous weir which barges could not safely cross. Terrey had obtained a judgement against Crosse and had had Crosse's surety imprisoned. Letter from Bennet and Powney that they have reached a settlement, released the surety from prison and obtained the agreement of the 47 bargemasters who pass that way to a levy paid through Anthony Bell, farmer of the fishing and weir, to Mr William Mountague and Alexander Hayes 'adjacent neighbours', who in turn have removed 'some gravelly hills grown up in the river' to create a safer passage. The Council endorses their actions, whilst ordering justices of the peace to proceed against any refractory bargemen.
