Administrative / biographical background

The Youth Justice Board for England and Wales was established in 1998 under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. Its functions are to monitor the operation and performance of the youth justice system, identify and disseminate good practice, and advise on national standards. Its object is to prevent offending by children and young people. The Board is an executive non-departmental public body of the Ministry of Justice.
