Description

Captured ship: Amity of Reval (master Erick Jacobsen Durston or Diurstrom).

History: a Swedish merchant ship (160 tons), bound from Bordeaux to Elsinore and then to Reval [now Tallinn], laden with wine, brandy and paper; taken on 11/21 July 1697 off Ushant by HMS London (John Munden commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

  • [CP 1]: three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 2-CP 5]: claims by Arnold Brun, Berend Hetland, Caspar Kniper, Derick Reimer, Lord Gyldenlew and Johan Dunt, all subjects of Denmark and Sweden;
  • [CP 6-CP 7]: inventory, commission of appraisement;
  • [CP 8]: attestation and claim of Benjamin Ayloff;
  • [CP 9-CP 10]: attestation as to papers, and abstracts and translations of the 27 ship's papers (most of these were likely restored).

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 26 (with gaps - here are SP 1-6, 19A, 19B, 22-23, 26), bills of lading, customs paper, accounts relating to cargo.
