Description

Captured ship: Amity of Wexford (master John Cod).

History: an Irish Jacobite ship (20 tons, 5 men), bound from Wexford to Waterford, Ireland, where they intended to lade for Dublin; taken on 8/18 March 1690 by HMS Edgar (Cloudesley Shovell commanding), and brought into Milford Haven.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1]: attestation by Cloudesley Shovell that the crew declared they would 'rather go to prison than serve his majesty';
  • [CP 2]: docket for SP 1, brought in 2 April 1690.

Ships Papers: SP 1, charter party between Leonard Kerly merchant of Wexford, and part owner, and Captain Derby Ryan, merchant of Dublin.

[Decision: condemned, 4 June 1690]
