Description

Captured ship: America of Emden (master Hillebrant Baen).

History: an American and African Company of Brandenburg merchant ship (100 tons, formerly the Baltimore of Bristol, bound from Nevis), bound from St Thomas or St Croix [Danish West Indies] to Emden, laden with sugar; seized in port at Kinsale, Ireland on 13/23 June 1693 to the Lord Admiral's use.

  • [CP 3]: claim of the African and American Company of Brandenburg;
  • [CP 4-CP 5]: additional interrogatories, examination relating to the purchase of the ship as a prize at St Croix by Pedro Van Bell;
  • [CP 6-CP 7]: additional interrogatories, examination relating to the former owners of the ship in Bristol;
  • [CP 8]: attestation and claim on behalf of Michael Pope, James Wallis, Richard Day, Edmund Stroope and John Streater of Bristol;
  • [CP 9/1-CP 9/5]: five exhibits submitted by the Bristol merchants: accounts and four letters from Nevis;
  • [CP 10]: attestation from Emden and an account of the ship's purchase at Santa Cruz/St Croix.

[Decision: condemned, 3 November 1693. Appealed]
