Folio 274. Letter from Rich [Richard] Stephens at Taunton, [Somerset] to James Vernon giving him private warning that Hugh Speke has written a very lengthy draft of his trial at Exeter, declared it all fact and that he will print it in order to lay it before the House of Commons. Stephens says if the case is laid before the House it may cause 'a greater difference between both Houses of Parliament than was last session' and if printed may prove very injurious. Both John Speke, Hugh's brother, and Stephens have endeavoured to persuade Hugh not to have it printed.
