Folios 265-266. A true copy of the deposition of Samuell Lucas of Dover, Kent, master of the 'Lucas' packet boat, concerning Colonel Cage who he took from Dover to Calais where the Colonel, Lucas alleged, spoke against the King and in favour of the late King James and the pretended Prince of Wales. On the reverse are copies of:- a certificate of Lucas's good character given by Jo [John] Hollingberry the mayor of Dover and seven others; a copy of Frances Wyvell's letter, dated 8 November 1701, to Captain Bokenham refuting the report of Captain Lucas's bad character; John Hollingberry's letter, dated 17 November 1701, to Alderman Lavender that he has heard nothing from the person sent by Lavender to get Lucas's affidavit about Colonel Cage. Lucas has told Hollingberry that a Mr Causibon 'has been with him lately, to enquire into the matter, of which he gave the same account he hath sworn to, at which he seemed dissatisfied'.
