Folio 172. Copy of a petition to the King from the English factory at Leghorn [Livorno, Italy] praying that for the reasons given Mr John Horsey be appointed as the King's consul there rather than John Burrow. Memorandum 'After this unanimous representation, John Burrow, being accused of causing one of her Majesty's subjects (an English merchant) to be assassinated, fled to Rome, and no person hath since been appointed, but a man of mean condition who is an Irishman and a Roman Catholic; Sir Lambert Blackwell himself, who bears the name of consul, residing at Florence in quality of her Majesty's envoy, and being in that raised station is uncapable of stooping to the lower offices of a consul'.
