Folios 142-143. Martin Laycock to the King. Petition giving information about the discovery of a mine 'in an island in the seas' by the master of a vessel cast ashore there, the mine containing ore of silver, tin and lead, every 16 pounds of ore yielding one pound of bullion. Laycock relates the agreement he has made with the master and his brother for exploiting the mine and the financial benefit accruing to the King 'so the clear profits will go a great way towards payment of your Majesty's debts, and encourage your people to prosecute a new war against France with vigour'. He hopes that the King will think him 'worthy of a regiment by this proposal'.
