Folios 91-93. Letter from Ja [James] Vernon to Mr Blathwayt principally concerning the letter sent by Ralph Grey to Monsieur d'Amblimont requiring him to recall the French from the island of St Lucia [Windward Islands] or otherwise he, Grey, will have to execute his orders for removing them. Vernon says he always thought things would go amiss even if it had been managed with more caution than Grey has used and hopes 'at least that Mr Grey will stop at what he has done, and proceed no further' till the King's pleasure is known. The other subject of Vernon's letter is the information from Mr Lewis, Lord Manchester's secretary that Maxwell and Hare 'two of the assassins' whose whereabouts are not known, were in private with King James the night before he went to Fontainebleau. Copy.
