Folios 89-90. Letter from Ja [James] Vernon to Mr Blathwayt. They have heard by way of France that there is little hope of the King of Spain's life 'which makes all stocks fall apart'. He also recommends his relation, Captain Philips, for the vacancy arising from the death of Monsieur Villeneuve, a lieutenant in the first regiment of Guards in connection with which he mentions Lord Berkeley, Colonel Shrimpton and Lord Romney. Vernon also makes reference to a Captain Carter who has asked to be considered for the vacancy but who is unlikely to be recommended by Lord Dorset. Copy.
