Folios 80-81. Letter from Ja [James] Vernon to Mr [William] Blathwayt giving news about various individuals in particular Lord Bellomont [Bellamont] who 'had received an account of what was done in relation to Kid [William Kidd], as well in Parliament as since' and 'is very much amazed at it, but is under no concern as to his own particular'. In a post script he writes that he is sending the case of a merchant 'who has received very great injury from a Portuguese governor on the African coast'; knows of no reason why the governor should seize the merchant's 'negroes and turn his men on shore'; and hopes to obtain some reparation if the King will sign the enclosed letter for the King of Portugal [Peter II].
