Captured ship: Maria Elizabeth of Hamburg (master Hans Peter Leuw or Luers).
History: a Hamburg ship (160 tons, 10 men), bound from La Rochelle to Dunkirk, laden with brandy and salt; taken on 10/21 April 1748 about 7 leagues off the Start Point by the privateer Defiance (John Lauga commanding), and brought into Guernsey.
