Description

Folios 96-97. [Robert] Yard reporting to Sir Joseph Williamson [Nine Years' War]. Vice Admiral [George] Rooke re-joined the fleet in Torbay; Captain [Robert] Partridge, commander of the 'Griffin', was killed. The Duke of Leinster and Lord Galway [Henri de Massue, Earl of Galway] went away to Portsmouth. The Duke of Luxemberg [François Henri de Montmorency-Bouteville, Duke of Piney-Luxembourg] lies still at Soignies [Spanish Netherlands]. [Louis François, Duke of] Boufflers marched from Givry and encamped at Haine St Pierre and Haine St Paul. The Hanover troops have been delayed by the bad weather; they will be tonight at Cortricke [Kortrijk or Courtrai, Southern Netherlands]. Lord Ambassador [William] Harbord left Vienna for Presburg, going down the Danube towards Belgrade, to have an audience with the Grand Vizier at Semlyn [Zemun, Serbia]. The troops commanded by Count Horne [?Count Arvid Bernhard Horn af Ekebyholm, Swedish General] are returning, being now encamped on this side of Brussels. Strong detachments were marching from the Moselle and Flanders, and Marshall de Lorge [Guy Aldonce de Durfort, duc de Lorges] was thereupon going to pass the Rhine at Philipsburg, to the Germans to pass that river to secure Swabia. The French King returned to Versailles and the Duke of Savoy designs to besiege Pignerol; Spanish troops are expected in his camp.
