Description

Captured ship: St Anthony of Padua of Ostend (master Jacob Morales of Mechelen).

History: [a Spanish Netherlands ship, bound from Corunna to London, but forced into Plymouth by bad weather on 9 May 1673, and there seized].

Documents: Court papers, a contested cause:-

Documents from Ostend, each with certified translations at Ostend, in support of the master's claim:

  • certificate that the owners are subjects of King of Spain;
  • seabrief of Morales (born at Mechelen) at Ostend, 25 February 1673;
  • Ostend council to the High Court of Admiralty, 7 August 1673 (extract from Ostend seabrief register);
  • certificate that the ship was built at Ostend and bought by named aldermen of Ostend, 9 August 1673.
