The Further Education Funding Council for England (FEFC) was a non-departmental public body of the Department for Education and Skills which distributed funding to Further Education and Sixth Form Colleges in England between 1992 and 2001.
The Building Condition Survey commissioned from Hunter and Partners in 1993 by the Further Education Funding Council (FEFC) estimated that the total cost of remedial works at colleges entering the further education sector was £839 million, of which £359 million was needed for urgent health and safety work. The maintenance of college premises was the responsibility of the colleges themselves; but the Further Education Funding Council was assisting them through capital grant with the costs of the necessary work.
