Folios 404-405: James Young, HMS Unicorn, Cove of Cork. Reports that owing to emergency work carried out on the 19 December 1797 in Cawsand Bay in a very gale of wind, with snow and rain, to replace the bower cable, the ship's crew were exposed to a considerable degree of hardship and fatigue. As a result he ordered the Purser to issue out a small proportion of brandy to the crew (in addition to their ususual allowance of beer) amounting to seven gallons. Requests that the Victualling Board allow this quantity of spirits to Edward Bell, the purser.
