Folios 395-396: James Young, HMS Unicorn, Plymouth Sound. Reports that on the 22 January while chasing an armed brig 18 leagues to the westward of Scilly sprung the head of the fore mast which was subsequently carried away. The same fore mast had in August been found to be defective and lengthened and returned to the ship. Is awaiting a replacement mast and encloses orders from Sir Thomas Williams from whom parted company on the 17 January in a hard gale of wind.
Folios 397-398: enclosed with folios 395-396. Thomas Williams, HMS Endymion, 12 January 1798 to Captain James Yong, HMS Unicorn. Details of orders to be followed in case of separation.
